Microdermabrasion Treatments in Philadelphia

Microdermabrasion at Metro Laser

Experience exfoliation like nothing you can achieve with a home product. Microdermabrasion is a highly effective and non-invasive treatment that can improve the glow and texture of your skin, as well as reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, acne scarring, brown spots, and just generally make your skin look fantastic.

Microdermabrasion scrubs and abrades the top layers of skin away in a highly effective yet gentle manor using tiny particles or bristle-like mediums.

Of the professional skincare treatments we offer, microdermabrasion is probably the safest, most combinable, quick and affordable ways to rejuvenate and beautify the skin.

Microdermabrasion is not an aggressive treatment but rather, builds the best result over the course of several treatments. Once the initial results are obtained, many patients continue to maintain their best skin with this treatment and swear by microdermabrasion as a regular part of their beauty regimen on a monthly basis.

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion was originally developed as a medical technique to reduce some of the fine protrusions in scarred skin for the purpose of reducing scaring and smoothing affected areas. Eventually, the process was adapted and tested for use as a professional med spa treatment for improving and beautifying skin tone and texture for most people.

A skincare professional systematically and slowly moves a small applicator over the skin which has a fine jet of abrasive medium usually made with very fine crystal particles that pulverize and blast the top surface of the skin, clearing pours and dead skin cells. The applicator also vacuums the medium and abraded skin dead tissues as it moves. Some microdermabrasion systems also use water in their jet applicators.

Not only is microdermabrasion fantastic as a professional exfoliating treatment, it also encourages collagen and elastin production over time.

Although microdermabrasion is not intended to treat severe skin conditions, unlike more aggressive treatments, it is effective and safe for regular use. This makes it one of the industry’s favorite secrets for maintaining amazing skin.

For those with more sensitive skin, over time, microdermabrasion may be able to help achieve results that they would otherwise not be able to enjoy due to not being eligible to safely receive more  aggressive treatments.

What Microdermabrasion Works On

One of the great things about microdermabrasion is how flexible it is and what a wide variety of skin types it can help. Nearly every patient can enjoy clearer skin that glows after just a couple of treatments. In fact, many see noticeable results after just the first treatment right away!

This gentle but powerful exfoliation can help improve a wide range of skin concerns such as:

  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Blackheads
  • Dull and tired skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation, including both age and brown spots
  • Large pores
  • Melasma
  • Rough, dry, or scaly skin
  • Sun and UV light damage
  • Uneven texture and skin tone

Can Microdermabrasion Be Used On Other Areas Besides The Face?

Yes! Microdermabrassion is often used on the neck, chest, shoulders, abdomen, waistline, and buttocks.

In mild cases, microdermabrassion can even be used to reduce the visibility of stretchmarks.

Is Microdermabrasion Safe And Painless?

Microdermabrasion is the least invasive, most comfortable treatment of the many professional skin rejuvenation treatments available. Microdermabrasion is safe for all healthy skin types. Unlike more aggressive treatments, microdermabrasion does not even require anesthetic creams.

That said, microdermabrasion isn’t recommended for some skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, dermatitis, active sunburn, herpes, lupus, open sores, psoriasis, or fragile capillaries.

Also, while it is true that microdermabrasion can be used to treat some aspects of acne, this use case should be done under the supervision of a medical professional.

While microdermabrasion is among the safest professional skin treatments, emphasis must be placed on PROFESSIONAL. In the wrong hands, microdermabrasion can cause pinpoint bleeding and other issues related to misapplication. At Metro Laser, our skincare professionals have the proper training and experience to ensure that your microdermabrasion treatments are always conducted exactly within proper medical parameters and with great care.

What To Expect

Microdermabrasion does not require any down time. You can resume normal activities immediately after. Most treatments only take 30 minutes on average.

After your treatment, you’ll likely notice an immediate improvement to your skin’s look and feel.

You should avoid unnecessary sun exposure for a couple of days after your treatment and should consider using a sunscreen.

Depending on your situation, you may be asked to avoid at-home facial mask products, abrasive scrubs, chemical peels or anything considered somewhat harsh to the skin. If you use a topical acne medication, your skincare professional may advise you to suspend its use for several days after your treatment as well.

Can I Do Microdermabrasion At Home?

Consumer microdermabrasion devices are little more than hyped up scrubbing devices. Only professional microdermabrasion devices administered by trained skincare professionals can produce the type of results that our patients consistently come back for.
